The High Voltage Breakdown test is carried out to verify the electric strength of insulation.

High Voltage Breakdown Test

The High Voltage Breakdown test is carried out on domestic / hose hold electrical appliances (Standard EN 60335-1), electrical equipment of machinery (Standard EN 60204-1), etc.

Usually a voltage twice the rated voltage or 1000V, whichever is higher is applied, for 1s. For electrical cables and conductors, the voltage is 2000V and the duration is 15 minute.

During the High Voltage Breakdown test at this voltage, when applied for this duration, no breakdown of the insulation should occur.
